Worm Shafts
Worm shaft is also known as worm screw or vortex rod. A worm shaft is a gear in the form of a screw.
When the worm wheel is running, it will generate a lot of heat energy due to contact friction. When the contact surface pressure is too high, coupled with high temperature, it is easy to cause wear on the tooth surface. Therefore, the worm rod should be made of wear-resistant and rigid materials.

Worms and Worm Shaft Information
Worm gears and worm gears are gear sets that provide high gear reduction and torque multiplication in a small footprint. A worm drive is a cylindrical gear with shallow helical threads that meshes with a worm wheel in a non-crossing, perpendicular shaft configuration.
The efficiency of a worm drive depends on the lead angle and the number of threads in contact with the worm gear. A high lead angle on the driver reduces frictional losses and heat. A low lead angle reduces gear speed while proportionally increasing torque.
Friction is a problem with all worm groups; in most cases, the worm gear cannot transmit motion back to the worm drive. Both lubrication and grinding contribute to the overall quietness of the kit while minimizing friction. Worm gear sets are usually produced in pairs due to their high precision.
Types of Worms and Worm Shaft
The difference between worm gear sets is usually limited by the handedness (left or right) and the concavity of the worm drive and worm gear across the width of the gear. Their use depends on the required mechanical efficiency.
Non-enveloping worm gear sets have no concave features, and the linear contact between gears places the highest levels of stress on the teeth.

Single-enveloping worm gear sets consist of one worm gear with a concave tooth width, allowing the worm drive to fit snugly around the gears and increase efficiency

The double-envelope worm gear set consists of a concave tooth wide-word gear and a concave tooth worm drive. This design maximizes efficiency.

Worm gearboxes – High transmission in one stage
Worm gearboxes are used when two shafts are arranged at 90° angles and a high transmission ratio is required in a single stage. These gearboxes generally consist of a worm shaft that can be single- or multiple-threaded, and a worm wheel that is driven by the worm shaft.
Worm gearboxes run quietly due to the low output speed alone. They are self-locking at high transmission ratios. Worm gearboxes cannot be driven in reverse as a rule. They require very little space.
The materials chosen for the gears is of immense importance, among others in order to minimise wear. Possible applications include e.g. the alignment of solar panels or in the main drives of material feed systems.

Sturdy and reliable
The CZPT worm gearbox has a simple and proven design. We only use high quality components such as cast iron, aluminum and stainless steel housings, case hardened and polished steel worms and special alloy high grade bronze worm wheels to ensure optimum wear resistance. The worm gear box is sealed with a dust-proof lip, which is effectively dust-proof and waterproof. In addition, the gearbox is lubricated for life with synthetic oil.
Low noise
Our worm gearboxes and actuators are extremely quiet. This is due to the very smooth running of the worm gear, combined with the use of cast iron and the high precision with which the components are manufactured and assembled. For our precision gearboxes, we pay special attention to any sound that could be interpreted as gear chatter. As a result, the general noise level of our gearboxes has been reduced to an absolute minimum.
Angular gearboxes
The input and output shafts on a worm gearbox are perpendicular to each other. This often proves to be a decisive advantage, making assembly of the gearbox easier and more compact. Worm gearboxes are angular gears. This is often an advantage of incorporating structures.
Strong bearings in solid housing
The output shaft of the CZPT worm gearbox is very firmly embedded in the gearbox, ideal for direct suspension of wheels, live arms and other components, eliminating the need to build a separate suspension.
Self locking
For larger gear ratios, CZPT-Gear’s worm gearboxes will provide a self-locking effect, which can be used as a brake or an extra safety protection in many cases. In addition, worm gear screw jacks with trapezoidal spindle are self-locking and ideal for a variety of solutions.
